I used to detox every January.
For years, I would embark on a 30-day journey of no meat, no sugar, no alcohol, no caffeine, no gluten – no fun.
As you might expect, the only way I was able to maintain this intense regimen was to burrow myself away, avoiding friends and family out of fear my resolve for my pious dietary life would crumble.
To be fair, it wasn’t complete denial. I did indulge heavily in detox support supplements – which really were just expensive laxatives with Goop-washing PR.
It wasn’t until I was at the gym one dark January night, ferociously jack-knifing away in my aerobics class, that I had to grapevine my way right on out of the workout and straight to the ladies’ room.
That was the last of my adventures in detoxing.
These days, I take a different approach to a new year reset after a month of decadence.
