I am currently reading Long Island, and I'm loving it. I didn't read Brooklyn, which was a gamble, but it hasn't mattered. I was excited to start Brooklyn when I finish, but maybe I'll wait till you give the full report. Very excited/honored about Maddie's newsletter, too :)
I think I’m in the minority, Ali, so you can’t go by my thoughts on this one. I think Colm is The Author of Summer 24 – everyone is talking about him, and they can’t all be wrong! Also, yes, Maddie’s pizza year is super fun, I was honoured to be asked for a wine recco. PS - tried your Caesar salad recipe the other day -had to modify a titch for guests’ allergies, but otherwise👌👌👌
I'm now reading Brooklyn and am kind of with you! It's fun in some ways, because I have the context of the characters in the sequel as a reference point, but I'm not as captivated as I was with Long Island. But I will push on. Great to hear about the Caesar salad :)
Some essays are fascinatingly old school, some weirdly so. I am really loving the ones from the 80’s … long enough ago that it’s not my adulthood, but recent enough that I can visualize and kinda/sorta relate. It’s all very, very cool. 🍾
I love to hear this! Most of what I read ends up being very of-the-moment stuff, so having the passage of time serve as a variable in each story sounds pretty magical.
Adored these recommendations, from the bread to the book! Also enjoyed hearing your voice. I'm not brave enough to add audio to my own posts - I think I have a voice meant for silent films haha - but I did so love being able to listen to your words.
Thank you - that’s so kind. I’m having a bit of fun with the voice overs. I used to be a broadcast reporter and it’s amazing how much I have to fight to sound normal… like Mr Hyde, my “reporter” voice is dying to be unleashed! 🎙️😂

Ya, as I was reading I was just kindof like, “what’s the point, here?” 🤷🏼♀️
Just ordered “The Secret Ingredient”, thanks, Erin!
Let me know what you think! If you like that kind of reading, I also have The New York Times Book of Wine. Same concept and highly recommend. 👌
Echoing Jolene here: I'm so excited to read this book now! Love this rec 💫

I don’t want to oversell it, but I really love it. 😊
